What to Expect

The Second Summit Trekking in Mount Rinjani is a popular great for those who wish to experience the beauty of this active volcano without committing to a full three-day trek. The Second Summit Trekking is a 2-day, 1-night trek that takes you to the second highest peak of Mount Rinjani, which stands at 3,126 meters.

The trek begins early in the morning, and you will hike through lush rainforests and up to the crater rim. From there, you will continue your ascent to the Second Summit, where you will be rewarded with stunning views of the sunrise over the horizon.

After enjoying the sunrise, you will descend back to the crater rim, have breakfast, and then hike back down to the starting point, where your trek will come to an end.

The Second Summit Trekking is a challenging trek, but it is suitable for most individuals in good physical condition.

TREKKING ITINERARY

Day 1Senaru village (601M) –Senaru crater rim (2641 M)

RMC offers pick-up services from various locations on the mainland of Lombok. Pick-up times are as follows: 4 AM from Kuta Lombok, 4:30 to 5 AM from Mataram, Senggigi, or Tetebatu, and 7 AM from Senaru, 8 AM if you stay in Sembalun. If you plan to stay in Senaru before the trek, transportation can be arranged the day before.

  • At 8:00 AM, start walking through a dense tropical forest rich in flora, birdlife, and a variety of butterflies.
  • At 11:00 AM, we will take a break at Post 2 Montong Satas shelter (1,500 m) to enjoy fresh fruits and soft drinks provided by our guide and porter.
  • After the break, continue trekking uphill for 2 hours to reach Pos 3 Mondokan Lolak (2,000 m) for a lunch break.
  • At 2:00 PM, after the lunch break, continue to the Crater Rim of Senaru (2,641m) for 2 hours.
  • Camping and Overnight at Crater Rim
  • Senaru Crater Rim offers the most spectacular view after reaching the peak. We will enjoy an incredible sunset over Mount Agung in Bali and the smoke from the new volcano on the edge of the lake.

Day 2Senaru crater rim (2641M) Second Summit – Senaru village (601M)

  • We wake up at 03:30 a.m. for a light breakfast before starting the two-hour trek to the Sangkareang Rinjani second summit (3,126 m).
  • From the Sangkareang summit, you can enjoy spectacular views of Lombok Island, Bali, Sumbawa, and Segara Anak Lake, including a breathtaking sunrise.
  • After returning to the campsite, we had breakfast and rested before continuing our descent to Senaru village.
  • After breakfast, we will leave Mount Rinjani crater and descend to Senaru village through the rainforest.
  • If we are lucky, we may catch a glimpse of the elusive black monkey. It will take 5 hours, and we will have lunch along the way.
  • Arrive at Senaru village (601 m). Prepare your luggage and then drop off to your next destination in mainland of Lombok
